Project Summary
Pod Man Sky is a Discord community built around a No Man’s Sky podcast, bringing together players from multiple communities for weekly discussions and live recordings. My role focuses on improving onboarding, organization, branding, moderation systems, and the overall member experience.
Challenge
Podcast guests regularly joined from different No Man’s Sky communities, making it difficult for both hosts and members to identify affiliations before recordings. The existing onboarding flow also lacked structure, limiting scalability as additional communities became involved.
Approach
Redesigned the onboarding experience around community selection.
Refined the overall member journey.
Automated community role assignment during onboarding.
Organized channels for easier content discovery.
Created custom role icons using each partner community’s branding.
Built a scalable role structure for future partnerships.
Improved server organization and navigation.

Reflection
Designing systems for volunteer-led communities requires balancing flexibility with simplicity. This project highlighted the importance of building solutions that remain easy to maintain long after implementation.
